Ever make a meal for your friends or family with a recipe you’d never used before and panicked just before you served it?

Three years ago today, I remember being terrified. We were minutes away from launching Planet 93.9, a radio station built to be a REAL alternative, and I found myself almost drowning in doubt.
After years spent plotting (who am I kidding, FANTASIZING) about what I’d do if I’d ever somehow been handed the reigns to a radio station without any corporate conditions or interference, it was really happening, and I was getting nervous.
“IS ANYBODY GOING TO WANT TO LISTEN TO THIS?”
Maybe the rules that they’d beaten into me over the course of a long career in radio were in place for a reason. People don’t want to hear music they’re not familiar with. “You don’t ever get in trouble for the songs you DON’T play.” Maybe this project I’d poured my heart and soul into was doomed to fail. This would most likely be the last radio station I’d ever work for and I’d made it too challenging. Too different. Was I about to make a huge mistake?
It’s been three years since that fateful moment when we flipped the switch and all of those doubts have been replaced by daily reassurance.
You DO want a radio station that doesn’t sound like everything else on the dial. We’ve made it to our third anniversary because of YOU and your support.
This third year feels like a new beginning with our beautiful new North Brady Street studios (and a few other surprises happening soonish). It’s an exciting time for us and we have so much to celebrate because of what we’re building together. Three years down, hopefully many more to go. Thanks for listening to Planet 93.9! Cheers!
